patriarchy that began some 2500 years ago. Now we’re in a new time. The
previous period has to end or we end.
ECOlogic: But the time we’re moving out of has been an important part of
our evolution. The new consciousness includes that and goes beyond it, yes?
Gail: Yes. That was one of the things David Spangler talked about when he
addressed the idea of the Gaia hypothesis, and Miriam McGill’s frequently
referred to it as well. We have to take where we’re been and grow from it,
like a child growing up. A child learns different tasks for different ages and
those things are still present as the child moves into the next stage of growth.
ACOlogic: Like the acorn and the oak?
Gail: Yes.
ECOlogic: What were some of the things about the conference that perhaps
you weren’t expecting?
Gail: A connectedness. Everyone there was experiencing the same kind of
dreams, the same kind of hopes, the same kind of aims, and we were able to
share that.
EGOlogic: What was your perception of the other people who were there?
Who were they?
Gail: They were quite different in terms of what they do – very diverse
vocations, and yet there were many who seemed to be at the same point in
their journeys, looking for the same kind of transformation. There was a
connecting bond that went beyond interests. It had to do with their sense of
being; their passion.
ECOlogic: What sessions did you attend?
Gaily: the plenaries, of course, and then one on Psychology with Robert
Greenway, and one on Women’s Spirituality Today, with Merlin Stone.
ECOlogic: In your opinion, how does the feminist movement relate to the
Earth/Spirit idea?
Gail: As guts and center. There’s two ways of looking at it; one is that the
feminine has been negated for two thousand years, as has the earth. I think
the blossoming of one will be the blossoming of the other. The healing of one
