Removing Your GVSS Retainers
Removing your retainers is recommended to be done first thing in
the morning. GVSS retainers may bind to the cornea; this is ok. Upon
waking, apply 1-2 drops of lubricating eye drop directly into your eye. Use
your index finger to push up your bottom eyelid and ensure the lenses
are moving and are not bound. Always remove your retainers over a
countertop or over a sink with a closed or covered drain.
Recommended Removal Method: Using a Plunger
With the plunger between the index finger and thumb of your dominant
hand, align the plunger so it is positioned in front, centered and
perpendicular to the lens. Using a mirror can help.
Hold down your lower eyelashes with the middle finger your dominant
hand. Use your free hand to gently hold your top eyelid open. Pull both
lids open wider than the retainer lens.
When the suction cup touches the retainer, apply gentle pressure to
adhere the plunger to the lens, pull away, and remove the retainer from
your eye.
After removal from the eye, spin the plunger so it moves and slides off of
the edge of the retainer.
