Removing Your Scleral Lens
Recommended Method: Using a Plunger
1. Lubricate your eye thoroughly with preservative-free artificial tears or insertion
solution.
2. Use the preservative-free tear or insertion solution to wet the cup of the small
removal plunger.
3. Pull your lids open wide with your free hand. Hold the plunger at a 45o angle,
aimed at the lowest part of the lens in the 6 o’clock position.
4. Gently press the plunger against the Scleral Lens and then pull the plunger
directly away from your eye. If the suction of the lens does not break, press the
lower eyelid gently against the white part of the eyeball, just below the edge of
the lens. Now you can attempt to remove the Scleral Contact again.
5. When the lower edge of the lens has broken suction, you can then slowly
remove the scleral lens in a downward arc. Do not release the eyelids until the
Scleral Lens is out of the eye.
6. Remove the plunger from the Scleral Contact by twisting and moving it towards
the edge of the lens until the plunger is free and suction has released.
